A FEW OF THE GREATEST RAPPERS OF ALL TIME

Updated List of the Live Document on "A Few of The Greatest Rappers of All Time"

UPDATING EVERYDAY TO BE PUT ONTO WEBSITE.

there's a reason why this list is not numbered. there's a reason why this is not a themed list of just mainstream rappers vs. underground rappers or "real mcs" vs. "not real lyrcists." there's a reason why these are not just all MCs and how we've made room for scholars as well as hip hop organizers in here. and on this list we can make room for not just one element of hip hop too. there's a reason off jump why i did not name everyone either - because I'm leaving that to US. this document is for US by us.

The whole point of this "list" is to challenge ourselves to know more than what we already know. To get us thinking about who we know other than cis-hetero men rappers/mcs/lyricists. while we as artists we can always expand on our craft and grow in our element(s) and artistry - the purpose of this list is to break through the definition of criteria and to break the mold of typical industry standards of what often "great" means. the purpose to challenge ourselves on what we view as "great" and the ways in which we "measure" great. To challenge ourselves to "measure" differently or maybe not to "measure" at all which is often defined by cis-het men. this is not that list. this is the list that gets us knowing the who we don't often recognize and acknowledge. this is the list for us to learn and grow, this is the list we get to define for ourselves, this is the list to continue the discourse on the importance of hip hop feminism (shout to friend Joan Morgan for coining the term and thanks to friend Brittney Cooper for reminding me to put her on this list). this is the list to honor black feminism who has paved the way. this is the list to amplify and be recognized.

SO ADD ON so no one will be excluded or left behind.

original post: so, hey, we hope you get the point with this list. keep the list going. there's more to add on. and no, not everyone is a "rapper/MC." and no there is no mainstream vs. underground, real vs. not real lyricist on this list. the point is - the ones at the mar gins are the ones who speak that real ish. the fire that needs to be heard. the people who truly deserve the platform. theres more to add. so add them on.

add to this list - because there is no such thing as the “top greatest list” when Black, Brown, indigenous, womxn of color, queer, trans, bi, non-binary gender non-conforming, people with disabilities aren’t on the list!

note: men allies are welcome to share their input but only if you recommend womxn, queer, trans, bi, gender non-conforming, non-binary, disabled hip hop artists/educators organizers on here - white allies are welcome to be on this list as long as they are "allies."
